Both Central Warehousing and Distribution Pty Ltd and Central Freight Management Services Pty Ltd, are wholly South Australian family owned and operated businesses. With the global forces that surround us, mergers, acquisitions and the franchise boom, the Central Logistics Group are proud to call ourselves a family business and strive for that extra level of professionalism you get from principal ownership.
We are all busy embracing technology, and the efficiencies it brings while trying to maintain our stance in the business world, yet so many of us hunger for a more personal touch. A friendly greeting, a human voice on the telephone and or a smile from the person actually delivering your freight are all qualities we strive to deliver.
Our story began in the 1930's, when being courteous was expected. While these days it is a rarity, feel assured it still exists within our business! Back then, just one man, Mr Sayer, with his own truck, carted general freight across Adelaide. He started business with just a handful of customers and would have known them, their family and their business very well. Now Central Logistics Group strive for the same values of respect and personal touch.
His son, Don, eventually took over the business and by the late 1970's owned a depot in Welland (suburb of Adelaide, South Australia) with a fleet of approximately 25 vehicles.
In 1981, Martin Huggett and his family's transport and warehousing business amalgamated with Sayers and became Adelaide's largest independent local parcel carrier. With sound business practices and the belief in providing customers with respect and personal service, our business grew from strength to strength, expanding into South Australian country, Northern Territory and Linehaul, including the development of a extensive home delivery service throughout these areas.
The business moved to Kidman Park (suburb of Adelaide, South Australia) and in 1995 was restructured into the now two specialist logistics companies; Central Warehousing and Distribution Pty Ltd and Central Freight Management Services Pty Ltd.
During 1996, a new purpose built 'food grade' warehouse was errected which is approximately 2500 square metres in floor space with a total capacity of over 3000 pallets, all in high rise pallet racking. With a new 'food grade' warehouse and AQIS(Australian Quarantine Inspection Service) accreditation. This new warehouse brought the Kidman Park site's warehousing capacity to over 10,000 square metres of space (8,500 standard pallet storage).
The Central Logistics Group (consisting of both Central Warehousing and Distribution and Central Freight Management Services) has come a long way over the years. Today, the group accommodates an array of market sectors, from local micro-businesses to large international conglomerates. While the speed at which daily tasks are carried out has increased significantly since the 1930's, and the size of the business has grown, the "traditional" values and principles, from which we grew, remain.
